To the Victor of the Siege of Leningrad
The medal was struck a the Saint-Petersburg Mint under the order of the Moscow public organization of defenders and inhabitants of besieged Leningrad.
The medal was struck from tombac in the number of 170 pieces. The customers timed the issue of the medal to coincide with the 70th anniversary of complete release from the siege of the Hero City of Leningrad, which will be celebrated in January 2014.
the customers developed the medal sketch together with the specialists of the Saint-Petersburg Mint. As a result, it was decided to make the medal on a block decorated with an elegant laurel twig. The image of fireworks and the “Broken Ring” memorial included into the Green Belt of Glory and located on the western bank of the Ladoga Lake was struck on the medal. The inscription “To the Victor of the Siege of Leningrad” is engraved on it. The medal is given together with a certificate.
“It is a really unique medal, there’s nothing like it anywhere”, said Chairman of the Counsel of Veterans Elsa Shtabskaya. “Everybody we have given it to is proud of it. They say that the medal is simply wonderful, it’s even more beautiful than “Hero of the Soviet Union”. And although each of us has 10 – 12 medals, some even have more, we still believe that “Victor of the Siege of Leningrad” is one of the most important awards in our life.
The Moscow public organization of the defenders and inhabitants of besieged Leningrad expressed its gratitude to the Saint-Petersburg Mint for help in creating the unique commemorative medal.
